Our Faculty and staff

Lighthouse Christian Academy's faculty and staff are well-trained godly men and women whose love for children and Classical education fill the classrooms every single day. 

  • Mrs. Kathy Guerra, head of school

    Mrs. Guerra earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, with a major in English and a certificate in Secondary Education. After teaching in both public and private schools and working for a medical publishing company, she joined Lighthouse Christian Academy in 2013 as Marketing Director. Having experienced educational public and private teaching philosophies first hand, she found Classical Christian education to be the most compelling means of educating children and has been committed to supporting it ever since. She has three children who have attended Lighthouse since Kindergarten. In her spare time, Mrs. Guerra enjoys traveling, reading, running, and scrapbooking.

                   DARIA BENNETT, Administrator

    Lighthouse Christian Academy's day-to-day administration is managed by knowledgable and experienced staff members. Through collaboration and pulling from their many years of experience in education, the Administrative Team serves the families, staff, and students of the school and the community at large. 


  • Mrs. Karla Tryon, Office Manager

    Mrs. Tryon joined LCA in 2021 as the Office Manager, supporting the Administrative Team and being the touchpoint for families, staff, and the community at large. She brings with her 8+ years of experience in Accounting and Bookkeeping, has a background in Communications, served as a Core Team Member of a local church plant and attends Bay Area Community Church in Annapolis. Mrs. Tryon resides on the Eastern Shore with her husband, Travis, and their two children, Olivia and Mia. She loves digging deep into God’s Word and enjoys going to the beach in the summer with her family.


  • Jenifer Donoway, Office Assistant

    Mrs. Donoway joined LCA in 2023. She has a background in Telecommunications, Marketing, and Human Resources. Mrs. Donoway resides on Kent Island with her husband, Eric, and their three children. She enjoys attending a variety of sporting events and various community events and activities with her family.





  • Mrs. Yvonne mcbee, Junior Kindergarten Lead Teacher

    Mrs. McBee has been a part of the LCA community for several years. She began at LCA as one of our main substitutes in 2018 helping out in all of our classrooms as needed. In December 2021, Mrs. McBee stepped in as our long-term substitute in our Pre-K class and graciously became our Pre-K Lead Teacher in the fall of 2022. Mrs. McBee was born in Maryland, but grew up in Escondido, CA, where she graduated from California State University with a teaching degree in Social Sciences, and subsequently attended Lincoln Law School. Mrs. McBee returned to the Kent Island area in 2003. That same year, she met her husband, Hal, and they were married in 2007. Their son, Royan, was born in 2010. Shortly after Royan was born, they began attending Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church and have attended there ever since. Mrs. McBee enjoys serving at her church and has been Safe Harbor's Nursery Coordinator since 2018. She loves creating fun things with the smallest members of the congregation. 

  • Mrs. Jennifer Fielding, AssisTant Junior Kindergarten Teacher

    Mrs. Fielding has a tremendous background working with children and is excited to be on staff at Lighthouse Christian Academy. After 10 years as a paralegal and several years of staying home full time to raise her children, Mrs. Fielding worked as a teaching assistant for 8 years at a local preschool, 5 of which were with Pre-K-aged children. She and her family attend Grace Fellowship Church in Centreville. In her free time, Mrs. Fielding enjoys cooking, home interior projects, singing, and song writing. Mrs. Fielding shares her love of Christ freely and abundantly with her students and loves telling the stories of Jesus. 


  • Mrs. Bonnie Murray, Kindergarten

    Mrs. Murray has been teaching Classical Christian Education for over 15 years and continues to pursue courses, training, and seminars for learning how to better share the wonder of God’s world with the young ones. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Arts with a minor in Communications at Salisbury University in Salisbury, Maryland. Following her passion for Christ and the love of working with children, she began her teaching career In 2004 as a student teacher in first grade at LCA and was hired in 2005 to teach Kindergarten. After nine years of teaching at LCA, she left to care for her elderly mother and worked part-time teaching at St. Christopher’s Preschool in Chester, Maryland. Mrs. Murray rejoined LCA in 2018. Mrs. Murray has the desire to teach through the lens of God’s word and to see the majesty of His creation. She and her husband, Andy, have been married for 32 years and together have two children, both of whom flourished as students at LCA. Mrs. Murray loves the beach, outdoor activities, drawing, painting, and antiques.



  • Mrs. Christine Wasnesky, First Grade

    Mrs. Wasnesky earned her Bachelor's of Science in Music with a concentration in Education and minor in French at Grove City College.  Before joining LCA, she taught for 5 years in public schools before her children were born, and then she returned to teaching in 2011. Mrs. Wasnesky joined LCA in 2015 and loves its unapologetic Christian worldview, the Classical methodology, and its desire to partner with families to raise godly students with joy. Mrs. Wasnesky's interests include crafts of all sorts, sewing, and home improvement projects. She has two children who attended Lighthouse Christian Academy.


  • mrs. brooke brinkerhoff, Teacher Assistant, Kindergarten and First grade

    Mrs. Brinkerhoff joined LCA in 2023. She was born and raised in Lafayette, Louisiana where she attended the University of Louisiana studying Early Childhood Education. She and her husband relocated to Maryland in 2009 and spent time raising her children before spending 10 years as a teacher’s assistant at a local preschool. Mrs. Brinkerhoff and her family attend Wye Bible Church. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, reading, and attending her children’s sporting events.


  • Mr. TimOthy Wenger, Second Grade

    Mr. Wenger joined LCA in August 2018. A graduate of Towson University, Mr. Wenger earned a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. It was through Towson's wonderful program that he truly developed a passion for teaching.  After earning his degree, he has spent time teaching at public schools as well as private Christian and Classical schools. He enjoys music and sports, especially baseball, and is an enthusiastic member of our staff.     



  • Tiffany Diamond, third grade

    Ms. Diamond joined Lighthouse in 2023. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Teaching and Learning from Austin Peay State University. She was born and raised in Talbot County, Maryland, but has also lived in Massachusetts, Georgia, and Tennessee. She taught 8th Grade Math in Tennessee and has experience substitute teaching in both public and private schools. Her love of both God and learning have only grown throughout her life. She is looking forward to sharing both of these loves with the children she will teach at Lighthouse Christian Academy.

  • Ms. Daria Bennett, Fourth Grade, Administrator

    Continuing to provide a Christ-centered focus to her students, Ms. Bennett began her career as Lighthouse Christian Academy’s fourth grade teacher in 2010. With more than 20 years of educational experience, Ms. Bennett also serves as the Administrator at Lighthouse Christian Academy. During her career, she has taught a variety of lower school subjects including Language Arts, Literature, History, Math, Science, and Bible. In her spare time, she enjoys the beach, exploring historical sites, exercise, and reading.

  • Ms. avra sullivan, fifth grade

    Ms. Sullivan joined LCA in 2023. She spent 7 years working in the Mental Health field until her love for teaching, initially discovered through homeschooling her son, inspired a career change. After one year within the local public schools she was providentially brought to LCA. She holds a BA in Theatre and Dance and is the co-founder of Shore Shakespeare, a traveling amateur classical theatre company. Ms Sullivan and her son live on a small farm in Preston with a menagerie of animals. They spend most of their time in servitude to the farm's true ruler, Her Majesty Queen Bella Marie Louise, a potbelly/Kune-Kune pig. Ms Sullivan is extremely grateful to God for leading her to LCA where she looks forward to cultivating a passion for learning and a love of Christ in her students.


  • Mrs. Lauren Goetz, mentor teacher, curriculum development

    As an LCA alumni, Mrs. Goetz knows the value of Classical education rooted in the Word of God. She is a graduate of High Point University with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Mrs. Goetz previously taught 6th grade English in North Carolina and taught 5th grade at LCA for many years. 



  • Mrs. Eileen McFarren, Latin, 3rd-8th Grades, HOMESCHOOL COORDINATOR

    Magistra Eileen McFarren is an experienced Latin teacher with a Masters of Arts in teaching Latin from the University of Virginia. She is inspired by John 1:1-14, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Magistra McFarren believes that learning about words and language helps us seek and recognize that which is True, Good, and Beautiful. In addition to her love of teaching, Mrs. McFarren is an avid scuba diver and world traveler.


  • Mrs. Becky Brobst, Upper School math, bible, and Health

    Mrs. Brobst is a graduate of High Point University with a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine. She attended a Christian school prior to that, and she values Christian education greatly and has a deep desire to instill the love of God in every child. She has worked with the Queen Anne’s County Partnering for Youth Program at Stevensville Middle School, and has volunteered at Kent Island Elementary and Bayside Elementary schools. Mrs. Brobst lives on Kent Island with her husband, Wayne, and their 4 children. They have been members of Safe Harbor Presbyterian Church for the last 20+ years, where Mrs. Brobst has enjoyed leading the girls middle school Sunday School.


  • MS. Skyler Kochan, history, 6-8TH GRADES, logic, 7-8th grades

    Ms. Kochan attended Alderson Broaddus University on a golf scholarship. She graduated in 2020 with a B.A. in Legal Studies and Political Science. Upon receiving her diploma, she spent her time as a paralegal in both West Virginia and Michigan. Despite not going to college to become a teacher, Ms. Kochan spent the last six summers coaching and leading over 500 junior golfers in Flint, Michigan. Her experience as a coach encouraged her to take the steps necessary to become a teacher. She is both eager and excited for her journey to start at LCA. In her free time, she enjoys golfing with her family, painting, visiting historical sites, and reading new books.


  • Mrs. sara sheilds, upper school literature & writing

    Mrs. Sheilds joined LCA in 2023. She graduated from UMGC in 2020 with her B.A. in English. She proceeded to finish her M.E.d in 2021 at Liberty University and is currently pursuing a Creative Writing degree at SNHU. Mrs. Sheilds got married in September 2021 and they had their daughter two years later. She and her family love to hike, travel, and be outdoors. Mrs. Sheilds spends most of her free time reading or working on her degree.


  • MRs. liz morton, upper school science, common arts

    Mrs. Morton has a Bachelor of Science in Middle and Secondary Education from the University of Alabama and did her graduate work at George Mason University. She has over twenty years of teaching experience, fifteen of which have been at Lighthouse. While Mrs. Morton has primarily taught History and Logic during her

    years at Lighthouse, she has also taught a number of other subjects including Science, Literature, and the Common Arts. She has also coached volleyball and basketball, directed numerous student productions, and served as the Lead Logic Teacher for three years and the Head of Upper School for two years. Mrs. Morton has three daughters who attended Lighthouse, the eldest of which is an alumni of Lighthouse’s first graduating class. In her free time, Mrs. Morton enjoys traveling, gardening, and quilting.



  • Mrs. Carol Seitz, K-8 Art

    Mrs. Seitz earned her Bachelor’s degree in Art Education from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Maryland. She is a Maryland state-certified K-12 Art teacher and has taught art in Christian schools since 1990. She developed a Classical and Christian Art Curriculum that was published by Rockbridge Academy, a Classical school in Anne Arundel County. Mrs. Seitz takes a classical approach to art education and believes that all students may enjoy success in the discipline of drawing. She has found it beneficial to the students to include the history of art and certain master works in the art program. As the master artists were trained by copying works of master artists of their time, students are introduced to the concept of learning from recognized masters of the past.



  • Mrs. Marianne Graham, K-8 physical education

    Mrs. Graham has been teaching Grammar School P.E. at Lighthouse Christian Academy for over ten years. She became a Christian during her high school years, and she enjoys applying biblical principles in Physical Education to help students develop discipline, confidence, and respect for others.





  • Mrs. Ariella Bell, k-8 Music

    Mrs. Bell joined LCA in the Fall of 2023. She grew up playing piano and singing in her church, community, and school choirs. That love of music extended into adulthood as she started to teach piano and direct choirs of her own. She began cultivating young musical talents in a school setting in a K8 school in her hometown of Tucson, AZ where she taught for 5 years. Her portfolio includes keyboard instruction, recorders, ukulele, choir and musical theater. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Bell is a proud military wife of her best friend of 20+ years. Together, they raised 4 beautiful kids and are eager to begin the empty nesting phase of their life as their youngest is now a senior at Severna Park High School. In her spare time, she enjoys fitness, reading, traveling, and spending time with her family and friends.

  • Ms. jeanne hurley, afterschool Enrichment

    Ms. Jeanne began working at Lighthouse in 2021 as our Afterschool Enrichment Director. She loves her kids, learning old and new, and cooking by-the-book. Ms. Jeanne also enjoys art and going to libraries and museums. Her piece of biblical advice for everyone she meets is to 'enjoy each day knowing your Heavenly Father will never let you down.' One of her favorite verses of the Bible is Psalm 37:4.




  • Mr. William Ryans, Custodian

    Mr. Ryans keeps Lighthouse's facility shining brightly. We are so grateful for all of his hard work to keep LCA clean!
